You can dodge a ball… or a school bus, right? Training has been going well. Aside from some less than stellar driving by someone in a very long yellow school bus a few days ago, my adrenaline surges have all gone according to plan. To be honest, I have actually never had anyone throw a wrench at me,
but at one time in my life I was capable of dodging little red balls. And I do believe that specific grade school training helped me to swerve off the road in time to avoid being side-swiped by the back half of a long yellow school bus. And yes it was a “LONG” yellow school bus, so there can’t be any “short bus” jokes applied here. Training has been typical for me this time of the year with long rides and early rides while starting to add some short hard efforts. The early rides get me up at 5am (unless my blackberry alarm freezes!!) every Saturday so that we can make our annual weekly trek south to Palomar. We have again seen almost every kind of weather possible, beautiful sunshine, rain, and even some snow. In fact, the storm that passed through mid week last week was cold and left snow down at the 2000 ft level. In addition to the weather, we have seen the Corvette Club and the Dodge Viper Club on the mountain. I counted 18 Corvette’s go by me one day. While on a different morning, I was too mesmerized by the unique vanity plates on the Vipers to count them. Anyway, the weather, the car clubs, and the crotch rocket racers are all part of the “culture” of the mountain. The rest of the training rides have been steady and efficient. There really isn’t anything exciting to write about. However, I did sand bag the local women’s 1,2,3 race last Sunday. It was fun to see some of the local faces, and it added a little more motivation for my specific training effort on the agenda. I was even able to win in my new Flexpoint – ShoAir kits!!! Sho Air is a new personal sponsor. They are helping me with my US based racing and training. I am super grateful for their support, and I am also excited for the new opportunities that may come down the road. For now… I am staying dry. |
