Updates and Upgrades . . .

Oops. I never wrote up the Philly race, sorry.  That was a long time ago, and I’m not going to write a blow by blow. Quickly, I will say that the team raced hard. We were aggressive, but weren’t able to do anything with it. Trixie and I ended up in the final split, but we needed a sprinter. Trixie had done way too much work before this to be effective, and I had ridden as a support rider. It was fun to do a race in the USA, but both the race and the trip were quick. We had two in the top ten, but it wasn’t quite the result we were banking on.

After Philly, I had three more weeks at home. Wow… that was nice. I was able to get some good training in, and just live in my normal world.

I am off to Italy, tonight. I will be racing the Giro d’Italia from July 3 to July 12. Then, the Thuringen-Rundfahrt from July 21 to July 26. Finally, I will go to Sweden for the two world cups. The team time trial world cup is the 31st, and the regular old Vargarda Open World Cup is Aug 1st.

And finally… I will leave you with a note on UPGRADES.  I CANNOT believe I was able to upgrade today. I always fly United or Lufthansa or Star Alliance airlines. United is who I have all my miles and frequent flier status with.  In order for me to upgrade on an international flight, #1 I have to have the right fare...whatever that is.  #2 If I am on United, it is simply a matter of space. If there is a spot, they take my miles, and I am in the luxury suite. BUT if I am on Lufthansa, it is an entirely different matter. You see... they, UA and LH, are supposed to be partner airlines. However, neither one of them talks to the other. They each tell you one thing... and of course never the same thing or at the same time. Their computers do not talk either. This means that I must have United snail mail me a paper certificate. Then, I have to convince LH that this paper certificate is the correct one. LH almost always says they must have the paper certificate with the winning lotto numbers on it.  Of course, I don't have this one. I only have the $2 winner. They push me away and snicker under their breath. Seriously, it is comical to listen to people try to upgrade. Myself included. Painfully comical.  I have had some really good "discussions." Usually, I fail. In fact, I have been carrying this paper certificate with me for about a year now... AND today.... what's that you hear??? do you hear the angels singing hallelujahs?? why yes!!! The paper certificate worked. I had the winning lotto #'s! Woohoo!! I am out of the sardine section. Nice. (AND it is LA to Munich so it is the long one...12 hours.)

Thanks for reading. Hope you are smiling.

More from the Giro to come.
